A Life Coach's Take on Legally Blonde: The Musical

Today I had the privilege of enjoying the musical, Legally Blonde.  It was a wonderfully engaging and fun experience that heightened my senses.  As a Life Coach, I, of course, absorbed the multitude of messages that were gleaning through the fun, energetic songs and storyline.  Here is my take on Legally Blonde…
From the initial eruption into song to the very last scene, this musical is overflowing with positive messages that we can actually apply to our life.  The musical starts with a group of vibrant girls twirling around in song celebrating the relationship of their friend, Elle to Warner, a supposed girl’s dream “catch”. The cool thing about this is that the girls are not jealous of Elle, but they are supportive and actually excited for her.  They don’t dwell in the “I can’t” that jealousy throws us into.  Jealousy is just our thoughts of believing that the joy that someone else has is unattainable to us.  When we can genuinely celebrate other people’s successes, we are acknowledging that we too can have our own success if we want it.
At one point, Elle is shopping for an engagement dress and the salesclerk pegs Elle as a “dumb blonde” and an easy sale.  Elle poignantly shows her otherwise through her confident display of fashion forte. This is just the beginning of the consistent theme of Elle being the most of who she is in the world regardless of the constraints of other people’s opinions.  Throughout the musical, she moves through her life seemingly oblivious to the critical stares and judgmental sneers until her boyfriend breaks up with her, at which point she believes that she must conform to what her prey would like her to be.  She is blessed to have a few close friends that help her to see otherwise. Who is your positive everybody, the people who love you for who you are and want the most for you?  Striving to be someone you are not because of others or changing to meet someone else’s expectations of you takes you out of alignment of your true path.  When we are secure in whom we are and put that out into the world, we attract the people who love us as we wholly are.  What are you the most of in the world? What gifts do you have, that are uniquely yours that can be shared with the universe? We all have them.
The most beautiful message that I received from the musical was the message of magnetic pulls that are our catalyst to growth.  Have you ever been drawn to something or someone or been overflowing with a desire that is impossible to ignore and it feels as though it is actually pulling you towards it or in the case of Legally Blonde, running after it? Then when you actually have been pulled out of your old life and into the new, the thing that was pulling you actually is not what you desired at all and you discover that you have had an abundance of growth and more clarity than you ever did.  In addition, opportunities have been exposed that you never would have seen if you were stuck in your old ways and your old life.  Legally Blonde ends with Elle realizing that what she was chasing after, which was to be reunited with Warner, was actually not what she desired at all.  Through her struggles and want, she emerged as the same beautiful person that she always was but with more wisdom and better options than she had ever known.  If she had not experienced the struggle of the breakup and the pull to win him back, she would never have stretched herself and experienced such growth.  That is the beauty of life. We stretch, we struggle, we love, we fall, we move forward, we grow, but life can never change the essence of whom we truly are.  Will you SURRENDER to the WONDER of life that pulls YOU through, as you are, to your TRUE PATH?
